May 6, 2009

The Ocheyedan library board met on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order.  Members present were:  Don, Nancy, Bernie, Laurie, Tammy and Librarian Connie Schuster.  Carol and Amy were absent.

Nancy moved that the minutes of the last meeting be approved.  Don seconded and the motion carried.

The treasurer’s report was read by Nancy.  It showed a bank balance of $23,888.58.  Trust and Agency had $18,854.38.  The General Fund had $5,034.20.

The bills were read by Nancy.  Bernie moved that they be approved and sent to the city council.  Don seconded and the motion carried.

The librarian reported that they had a very good turnout for the children’s story hour.

Unfinished Business

Arlene Tolsma brought the portrait of the Mound and presented it to the Library.

Emily Dorr took the Mound Room agreement home and will sign and return it.  She will pay $15.00 a week or $60.00 a month for rent of the room.

New Business

Children’s Book Week is May 12-16.  Connie has bought jelly beans for the kids.

USBorne Books will give the library $300 worth of books for every $200 worth of books that the library purchases.  The money to purchase the books must come from donations.  Dan DeKoter has given money for the summer reading program and it was agreed that it be used for the purchase of books.  The summer reading program will start June 5 and continue once a week for five weeks.

Connie called the Co-op about the fuel contract.  The price is $1.35 per gallon if it’s paid in full and $1.39 if we pay 10 cents down per gallon booked.  Connie will ask how much we have left from last year’s contract at $2.12 per gallon.

The meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be June 3, 4:30 p.m.

FYI
Connie asked if she should ask for a library donation when she was asked to do research for people not living in the area.  The board suggested she ask if they would consider a donation.

Respectfully submitted,

Bernie Willadsen
