Minutes of trustees' meeting

The Ocheyedan Library Board met on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 4:30 p.m.  Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order.  Members present were Nancy, Tammy, Carol, Don, Laurie, Bernie and Librarian Connie Schuster.  Amy Duis was absent.

Nancy moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Laurie seconded and the motion carried.

Nancy read the treasurer’s report.  It showed a bank balance of $26,199.46.  Trust and Agency had $18,854.38.  The General Fund showed $7,345.08.

Nancy read the bills and Laurie moved that they be approved.  Don seconded the motion and it was approved.

The Librarian reported that so far we had checked out six books less than at this time last year.

Unfinished Business:

The service contract for the copy machi ne was discussed.  It would cost $235.  There is $298 left from the Grant money.  This will be applied to the service contract and the rest spent for paper.  Bernie moved that we buy the service contract.  Don seconded and the motion was approved.

National Library Week is April 14-18.  Board members volunteered to bring treats for the event.  Those doing so were Laurie, Tammy, Bernie and Carol,  Amy Duis’ brother-in-law donated drinks for the library to serve.

Betty Taylor and friends will be coming on Friday for a book signing.  She will donate $1.00 to the library for every book she sells that day.

Jena Boles will be coming on Saturday morning to read from her “Maggie” Book Series.  She will donate the sales from the first 25 packets of her books sold to the Ocheyedan Park.

New Business:

The Supervisors appropriated $10,000 for the library.  This was the same amount as last year.

Arlene Tolsma donated a Mound picture to the library from the Ocheyedan Enhancement Committee.  It was graciously accepted.

Connie said she would call Elaine Brehmer about lawn care for the summer.

Emily Dorr does tutoring and has asked if she could rent the library’s Mound Room at a lesser fee for her classes.  Discussion was held.  She would be using it for two hours a day for three or four days a week with approximately 15 students.  This would be for only three months and during the morning or evening when the Library is not open. She will be charging her students $15 an hour.  Laurie moved that we rent it to her for $60 a month, with the provisions that she pick up after herself and that no students are left unattended in or outside the Library.  Bernie seconded and it was approved.

The meeting was adjourned.  Next meeting is May 6th, 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Bernie Willadsen
