Minutes of trustees' meeting

The Ocheyedan Library Board met on Wednesday, February 4, 2009.  President Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order.  Members present were Nancy Faber, Don Hormel, Amy Duis, Laurie Glade, Carol Iedema, Bernie Willadsen and Librarian Connie Schuster.

Nancy moved that the minutes from the January minutes be approved.  Carol seconded and the motion was carried.

Nancy read the treasurer’s report.  It showed a bank balance of $27,908.95. Trust and Agency had $18,854.38.  The General Fund had $9,054.57.

The bills were read and Bernie moved that they be approved and sent to the City Council.  Amy seconded and the motion was carried.

The Librarian’s report showed that circulation was down from this time last year.  However, we’re even with last month.

Unfinished Business:

The budget proposal from City Council:  Don was the spokesperson for the library and the consensus was that he did a marvelous job.  The council gave the library $21,000 for our budget and released a CD for $13,500 to be used for new carpet.

The County Foundation grant money has been spent for the new door and computers.  The paperwork is done.

The sewer pipe in the basement has been fixed and paid for.

Betty Taylor will do a book signing April 16, during National Library Week.

New Business:

The board approved the installation of a new copy machine,  since the old one quit working.  We will rent it for $75 a month with the agreement that the rent goes towards the purchase price.  A service contract is available.  Nancy moved that we add that on to the total purchase, but it died for lack of a second.  More information was needed.  Connie will contact The Tracy House board and ask them if they would like the old copy machine.

Coop Energy left an LP price quote for 2009 to be contracted now.  Since we have no funds for it now, it was agreed to wait until summer to contract.

It was agreed that no calls would be made to people with long overdue fines if books were returned.

National Library Week is April 16-18.  Betty Taylor will do a book signing. A local person would like to share stories from her unpublished writings.

Volunteer Week is April 19-25.  Connie asked for input on a gift for the volunteers.  Flowers were suggested.

Meeting adjourned.  The next meeting will be March 4, 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Bernie Willadsen
