March 4, 2009

The Ocheyedan Library Board met on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 4:30 p.m.  President Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order.  All members were present plus Librarian Connie Schuster.

Laurie moved that the minutes from the previous meeting be approved.  Nancy seconded and the motion was carried.

Nancy read the treasurer’s report.  It showed a bank balance of $26,015.58.  Trust and Agency had $18,854.38.  The General Fund had $7,161.20.

The bills were presented by Nancy. Bernie moved that they be approved and sent to the City Council.  Carol seconded and the motion carried.

Connie reported that magazine checkout was up by 25.  Eighty more videos were checked out than last month.  Book checkout is up from last month.

Unfinished Business:

The County Foundation Grant money in the amount of $2,000 was received and will be used to pay for the new copy machine.

Discussion was held on whether a service contract should be purchased for the copy machine.  It would cost $235 a year.  The copy machine has a 90-day warranty.  No decision was made at this meeting.

Volunteer week is April 21-25.  Connie stated that she will purchase plants for the volunteers.

National Library Week is April 14-18.  Betty Taylor will do a book signing between the hours of 2:30 and 3:30 on April 17.  The book “Walking Beans is Something You Don’t Do With Your Dog” will be available for purchase.  Betty will donate $1.00 from every book sold that day to the library.  Saturday, the 18th, Jenna Boles will come and read to the kids from her new book series.  Other ideas for library week were discussed.  A scavenger hunt was one suggestion.  Board members volunteered to bring in drinks and snacks.

New Business:

Calls have been received from students asking if they could do their community service hours at the library. It was agreed that they could be used cleaning the top of the library stacks and fixtures.

The meeting adjourned.  The next meeting will be April 8th, 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
