The Ocheyedan Library Board met on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.  Vice-President Laurie Glade called the meeting to order.

The treasurer’s report showed a balance of $19,138.42.  Trust and Agency had $14,690.07.  General fund balance was $4,448.85.

Nancy read the bills for the month.  A motion was made by Bernie and seconded by Nancy that they be approved and sent to the City Council.  Approved.

The Librarian reported an increase in book circulation.  She said it was due to the fourth graders checking out more books.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The accreditation report was signed by Board President Tammy Hoekstra on December 4th.

The county meeting in Melvin was interesting.   A book by Howard Radunz showing the names of everyone buried in Osceola County was presented to each library.  It was decided at the meeting to ask the county supervisors for $11,000 for each library at their December meeting.

NEW BUSINESS
The Board President received one job application for the Library Director’s position. The board did not feel that the applicant has the necessary qualifications.  Diane also received an inquiry for more information about the position.  There was discussion about job sharing between Diane and Connie.  The job sharing position would begin in January, 2008, and be evaluated in six months. A committee to work out details for job sharing was appointed by Vice-President Laurie.  The committee is composed of Nancy, Tammy, and Laurie.   Diane explained a little about librarian certification classes.

The proposed budget was reviewed. A motion was made by Bernie and seconded by Nancy to approve the budget.  Carried.

Diane will attend the county supervisors’ meeting on December 11, 9:00 a.m. and ask for $11,000 for each library in the next fiscal year.

We need a person to do snow removal.   Diane will ask a couple of people in town to see if they are interested.

Nancy moved we ask the Boy Scouts to remove the basement carpet.   Bernie seconded the motion.  Carried.  Nancy suggested we buy the Scouts masks before they remove the carpet.

Diane needs to order supplies for summer reading incentives.  Connie will help select the supplies.  The program theme is “Bugs”.

Next meeting is scheduled for January, 9, 2008 at 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Bernie Willadsen
