The Ocheyedan Library Board met on Wednesday, November 7, 2007.  Board president Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order.

A motion was made by Carol and seconded by Laurie that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved.  Motion carried.

Nancy’s treasurer’s report showed a bank balance of $25,819.96.  Trust and Agency had $25,690.07.  General fund balance was $129.89.

Nancy read the bills for the month.  A motion was made by Carol and seconded by Laurie that they be approved and sent to the City Council. Approved.  Diane reported that they returned four ballasts from the office lights that were not needed, and were credited $92.64.

The Librarian reported that circulation was still going down.  Looking back about ten years we had loaned out 1,100 books in October.  Very few children’s books are being loaned out.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Diane has started to fill out the Community Foundation Grant Application. Ideas were discussed.   Connie made the motion to request a Community Foundation Grant for one new computer and replacement of the front door. Up to $3,500 is available.

The County meeting will be held at the Melvin Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:00 p.m.  Judy Harthoorn will be the guest speaker.

The Christmas party for the library volunteers will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5.  Board members will bring hors d’oeuvres.  Diane will buy the gifts for the volunteers.

Diane would like to retire by February 1, 2008.  Nancy made the motion to advertise for a new librarian in The Ocheyedan Press-News, Sibley Gazette and the Peach.  The ad will run for two weeks and ask for all applications to be in by December 4, 2007.  Connie seconded the motion.  Diane stated that she would stay on for a while and help train the new librarian.

New Business

Diane had one computer repaired in Hartley by PC Advantage.  Network card had burned out.  Repair charge was $60.The three-year tech plan was explained.  Tech Atlas template was used for the tables.  A plan is needed in order to apply for e-rate discounts.

The S-O elementary center has asked to use the library basement in case of building evacuation.  A motion by Bernie that they be given a key and be allowed to use the basement was seconded by Laurie.  Carried.

Handouts of accreditation report were given.  It tells we’re a Tier ll library.

A trustee workshop will be held Nov. 8 on Fair Pay for Library Directors.

Next meeting is Wednesday, December 5, 4:30 p.m.
