October 4, 2007

On Thursday, October 4, 2007, Board President Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order.  All of the board members were present.  Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved after a motion by Laurie and a second by Connie.

The treasurer’s report was read.  Bank balance was $26,590.  Trust and Agency had $25,690.07.  General fund had $900.46.  Grant money from 2006 was spent in 2007 for labor on ballast and extra materials for back entry.

Nancy read the bills for the month.  Bernie made a motion to send them to the City Council.  Carol seconded the motion.  Approved.

The Librarian’s report showed more books checked out this month than last, but fewer than last year at this time.

Unfinished Business

The roof project is almost finished.  The leak problem was from a place around the bathroom vents.  Rotted boards were replaced and it was decided to cover up those vents.

Diane asked for a new application to apply for another Community Foundation Grant.

Possible grant ideas were discussed.  They were:  carpeting upstairs and down;  replacement of front door;  replace one (or two) public access computers; new copier;  purchase available microfilm copies of Ocheyedan Press & microfilm reader/printer; USB connection on the computers.

Diane stated that people doing research had asked for microfilm of the Ocheyedan Press & News.  Heritage Microfilm in Cedar Rapids has copies of Ocheyedan Press & News from May 1916 through May 1926.  It then continues on May 1976.  Possible costs were discussed:  $1,575 for microfilm; the Reader/Printer $3,500 to $8,000.

Deadline for the grant application is around November 11.  Nancy made the motion that Diane explore the cost of one new computer and copier.  Laurie seconded the motion.  Carried.

New Business

Melvin Library will be hosting the county meeting on November 15.

Christmas gifts for Library volunteers and a holiday event were discussed.  A decision will be made at the November meeting.

A $32.75 donation from Unity Circle and a memorial from the Della Mae Rubsam family of $25.00 was received.

Diane will be gone on Friday, Oct. 5.  Connie is filling in for her.

Next meeting will be November 7, 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,  Bernie Willadsen
