April 9, 2008

The Ocheyedan Public Library Board met on Wednesday, April 9, 2008.  Vice President Laurie Glade called the meeting to order.  President Tammy Hoekstra was absent.  Members present were:  Nancy, Laurie, Carol, Don, Bernie, and co-Librarians Diane and Connie.

A motion was made by Carol and seconded by Nancy to approve the minutes from the March meeting.  Motion carried.

The treasurer’s report showed a bank balance of $24,595.05: Trust and Agency $14,690.07, and the General Fund $9,904.98

Nancy read the bills for the month.  A motion was made by Carol and seconded by Don to send the bills to the city council.  All approved.

The Librarian’s report showed a lot of Interlibrary loans this past month.
Unfinished Business
Carol Iedema is thinking about becoming a board member.  She wants to attend a board meeting before she makes a decision.

The donated computer was installed without any set up needed.

Next week, April 15 through April 19, will be National Library Week.  The library will have open house on Tuesday, April 15, with refreshments, drawings and prizes.   Diane will give out kids’ books, pencils, bookmarks, hand outs and what ever else she might find.

The Supervisors approved $10,000 from the county.  The library received the second half of this year’s appropriation in the amount of $5,000.

Tammy talked to Brian at the Coop Lumber about a door to replace our entrance door.  He said a brown steel door was about $1,500.  Discussion was held about type of door hardware and who would do the installation of the door.  It was agreed that Tammy should ask Clyde if he was interested in doing the installation.

Diane will call P.C. Advantage in Hartley and ask for a price quote on new computer(s).  A decision on purchasing will be made at the May meeting.

New Business
New people have been coming in and getting a library card and not returning all of their checked out items.  Discussion was held on how to prevent them from doing this in the future.

The co-directorship will continue.  Diane will order books and do the web pages.  Ruth Hoekstra was asked to work extra hours or days and she agreed to do so.  This would give Diane and Connie more flexible working hours.

No decision was made on a fuel contract.

Elaine Brehmer sent a letter stating she will need $18.00 for each mowing this summer.  Connie has asked Dave Kuehl and Marlene Boernsen to speak at the summer reading program.  It was decided to give them each $50.00 for their time.

The next meeting will be May 7, 2008, at 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Bernie Willadsen
