February 6, 2008

The Ocheyedan Library Board met on Wednesday, February 6, 2008.  All of the members were present.  Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order.

A motion to approve the January minutes was made by Nancy, seconded by Laurie, and approved by all.

The treasurer’s report showed a bank balance of $24,749.48, Trust and Agency $14,690.07 and the general fund showed a balance of $10,059.41.

The bills were read by Nancy.  A motion to approve and send the bills to the City Council was made by Carol, seconded by Laurie and approved by all.

The Librarian’s report showed that circulation was up this past month.  This was due to the fourth grade checking out more books.  She also reported that our Interlibrary Loaning of books was up.  Twenty seven books were sent out the past month.

The carpet from the basement was taken away by the Town and Country Disposal.  Board members looked at the floor and decided we need to include some type of floor covering in next year’s budget.

No decisions were made concerning the board vacancy.

Diane has received her recertification. It is valid through 2010.  A grant was approved for $3,500 from The Community Foundation of Osceola County.  It will be used to replace the front door and a computer.  The city council of Ocheyedan has graciously offered to give the library one of the computer lab computers. A motion by Nancy to accept their offer was seconded by Laurie and carried.

Connie has registered for the Summer Reading Program.  The meeting will be held at Orange City sometime in February.

The Board decided they would not be interested in participating in a consortium that will provide downloadable books to patrons for a yearly fee.

The need for a library volunteer and not being open on Thursdays was discussed.  No decision was made.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 5, 4:30 p.m.

Respecfully submitted, Bernie Willadsen
