June 4, 2008

The Ocheyedan Public Library Board met on Wednesday, June 4, 2008.  President Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.  Members present were: Carol Iedema, Carol Seivert, Don Hormel, Bernie Willadsen, and Co-librarians Connie Schuster and Diane Truckenmiller.  Laurie Glade and Nancy Faber were absent.

A motion was made by Carol Seivert and seconded by Carol Iedema to approve the minutes of the May meeting.  Motion carried.

Diane read the treasurer’s report. We had a bank balance of $20,279.53.  Trust and Agency showed $14,690.07.  The General Fund had $5,589.46.

Diane read the bills for the month.  A motion was made by Bernie to send the bills to the city council;  seconded by Carol S.  All approved.

Unfinished Business
Jim Dekkenga came and measured the front door.  He will install the door and help us order it.  The same kick plate can be used.  A different handle (possibly a crash handle) will be ordered.

Computers are ordered.  We’ll pay for them in July and then they will be installed.

Carol S. made a motion to have Diane check on who has the best fuel price, and lock it in at 10 cents a gallon instead of paying the whole amount at one time.  Bernie seconded the motion.  Carried.  About 900 gallons will be needed.

Jobes came and measured the basement steps.  The cost to carpet the steps would be $260 installed.  Carol Iedema made a motion to buy enough carpet for steps while we were doing the rest of the basement floor.  Motion died for lack of a second.  Don made a motion to leave the steps alone.  Carol S. seconded the motion.  Carried.   We need to strip the basement floor before the carpet is laid.  Rent for a stripper is $48 dollars a day.  Bob, Tyler, and Jerry may agree to help run it.

New Business
Tammy signed the Enrich Iowa letter of agreement and First Search letter.  We meet their criteria and we’re approved for the next fiscal year.

It was the consensus of the board that Diane should attend the ICN information session.  The session will explain the shared automation system.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Bernie Willadsen
