March 5, 2008

The Ocheyedan Public Library Board met on Wednesday, March 5, 2008.  President Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order.  Members present were:  Nancy, Tammy, Carol, Don, Laurie and co-librarians Diane and Connie.

A motion was made by Carol and seconded by Nancy to approve the minutes from the February meeting.  Motion carried.

The treasurer's report showed: bank balance; $23,056.94, Trust and Agency; $14,690.07, and General fund; $8,366.87.

Nancy read the bills for the month.  A motion was made by Nancy and seconded by Carol to send the bills to the city council. All approved.

The Librarian's report showed total books loaned out in February was 577.  This was 30 more than February 2007.

Unfinished Business
There is still a board vacancy.  Tammy will ask Carol Iedema if she is interested in the position.

The donated computer from the computer center is at the library but not set up.  Diane is waiting to hear back from Russel Glade about what needs to be done to get the computer connected to the internet and to the library network.  A motion was made by Nancy and seconded by Carol to spend up to $125.00 for the process.  All approved.

New Business:
Diane called Robertson's Mechanical to check on the library furnace as it didn't seem to be working properly.  Scott Robertson looked at the furnace and thermostat.  He thought the problem was the thermostat and ordered a replacement.  The furnace has been operating without problem so the new thermostat has not been installed.

Diane was presented the check for $3,500.00 from the Community Foundation Grant. Tammy will ask Clyde for ideas about replacing the front door.

National Library Week is the second week in April.  Diane thought about serving cookies and punch during the week. Volunteer Week is also in April.  Diane will order a small gift for our volunteers.

The next meeting will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 4:30 p.m.

Acting Secretary
