September 3, 2008

The Ocheyedan Library Board met on Wednesday September 3, 2008. President Tammy Hoekstra called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.  Members present were:  Tammy H, Don H, Carol I, Nancy F, Bernie W., Librarian Connie Schuster and co-director Diane Truckenmiller.  Laurie G. was absent.

A motion was made by Nancy and seconded by Bernie to approve the July minutes. Motion carried.

The treasurer’s report was read by Nancy.  As of Aug. 15, we had a bank balance of $24,050.70.  Trust and Agency showed $18,854.38.  The general fund had a balance of $5,196.32.

Nancy read the bills for the month.  A motion was made by Don and seconded by Carol to approve the bills and send them to the city council.  Approved.

Unfinished Business:

The front door is on its way.  A color needs to be chosen for the distributors to paint the door.  The majority of those present chose the color dark bronze from the color swatches.  It was noted that the trim around the door should be painted sometime in the future.

No one has been found for a replacement board member.

Microsoft Office has been installed in the new computers.

New Business:

The County meeting will be November 6, 2008 at the Ocheyedan Public Library.  Bonnie McKewon will give a presentation entitled “Ready for On-Line Learning”.

Committees were chosen to review the Long Range Plan and Policy.  Connie, Don and Bernie will review the Long Range Plan.  Connie, Tammy, and Carol will review Policy.

Connie called Dennis Duitsman about the sewer pipe in the basement,  but hasn’t had a reply.  She’ll contact him again.

The unused printer in the office isn’t sellable.  It was decided to give it to Connie.

Tammy will ask Zack Espy if he is interested in doing snow removal at the library this winter and what he would charge.

Two new fire extinguishers are needed to replace two old ones.  One extinguisher needs to be recharged.  Heiman will do the recharge free since we paid them $20.00 for the inspection.  A motion was made by Don seconded by Nancy to pay $75.00 apiece for the new extinguishers.  Approved.

Connie called the courthouse and requested an extension for the Community Foundation Grant deadline.
The  meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted, Bernie Willadsen
