February 3, 2010

The board of trustees meeting of the Ocheyedan Public Library was called to order at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday February 3, 2010 by President Laurie Glade.  Those present were Nancy, Linda, Laurie, Don, Carol, Tammy, Bernie, and Connie.

Minutes of the January meeting were approved by Bernie and seconded by Don.  Nancy read the bills and a motion was made by Nancy and seconded by Tammy that the bills be sent to the city council for payment.  Motion carried.  Nancy reported a bank balance of $29, 088.19.  Trust and Agency has a balance of $19,169.52 and general fund $9,918.67.

Connie reported we had 2 new borrowers.  There were only 3 children at story hour for the month of January.  She said that the basement is filling up with boxes so it will be hard to have any activities until we get the remodeling done.  The Catfish Club made 400 copies and we decided to just ask them to pay $5.00 for the cost of the paper.

Unfinished Business

We received $21,000.00 from the city for our budget for the coming year.  The Library requested to be included in the city snow removal for the coming year.  We received the Community Foundation Grant of $3500.00 which will be presented to us on Wednesday February 10th at 5:00 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center in Sibley.
The carpet for the library was ordered from Jobes Furniture on January 19th.  John Jobes suggested that we have our painting done before the old carpet is removed.  He feels we will be able to use the same pad as we have now.  Kevin Klaassen will provide the trailers for the books but we are wondering where the best place to park them while the work is being done for insurance purposes.  Connie will keep in touch with Debbie Haberkorn about the May term students.  Several colors of paint were picked out and Connie will talk to the painter and get her opinion.  We will decide next month on the color.
A motion was made by Nancy and seconded by Don that we hire Schaap Moving and Storage Co., to remove the shelves and replace them at a cost of $4354.50.  The motion passed with one opposing vote.
Don will look into the best way to place our computers to get rid of all the computer/phone cords, especially the line to the office.

New Business

The 2010 budget will be amended with the city to include $5000.00 for carpet and painting.
Our new volunteer for Thursday is Jane Bedet.
Summer Reading will be in July or August for 3 sessions.
Tammy made a motion to upgrade our internet speed for a charge of $1.00 per month.  It was seconded by Bernie and motion carried.
It was suggested to get plants for the National Volunteer Week April 20-24th.

Meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be March 3rd at 4:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Carol Iedema
