The Ocheyedan Library Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at 4:30pm.

Members present were:  Laura Glade, Don Hormel, Tammy Hoekstra, Nancy Faber, Linda Kogelmann, Janet Kleve and Librarian Connie Schuster.  Absent:  Bernie Willadsen

Meeting was called to order by Vice-President, Don.

Motion was made by Tammy and seconded by Laura to approve the minutes. Carried.

Treasurer's Report:  Bank Balance of $48,873.76; Trust and Agency Balance of $27,307.42; General Fund Balance of $14, 993.06.
Bills to be sent to the City Council were read and a motion was made by Nancy and seconded by Janet to approve.  Carried.

Librarian's Report:

  • 3 new borrowers.
  • Through an email, Connie was informed borrowing libraries, which do not receive a subsidy for loaning items, are now allowed to charge patrons up to $3.00 to recoup postage cost.  After discussion it was decided to wait until the fall review.
  • It's looking as though the library may be approved for E-Rate.

Unfinished Business:
     1.  Progress on grant projects:

  • Denny Duitsman is to come this week regarding the backup sump pump.
  •  Marlin Laverman has removed the landscaping rock, has replaced pavers.
  •  These will complete the projects.

     2.  Plans for Library's 100 years:  Celebrate with the City's Days of Old on August 11th.  The City will not charge the library to set up a table at the Park.  Don and Linda will work on ordering pens with the library's anniversary years 1912 – 2012.  Additional ideas will be discussed at the August meeting.

New Business:
    1.  County appropriation:  $11,000.00 has been received.
    2.  Summer reading report:  the weekly Wednesday meetings were well attended with an average of 23.  The children had fun times with a field trip around town finding where the first libraries were located, visiting the Tracy Museum pumping water to do their “laundry” as in pioneer times, making soap, paper quilts, etc.

Meeting adjourned.

Date of next meeting will be August 1st at 4:30pm.

Respectfully submitted,
    Janet Kleve
