Minutes of Trustees' meeting

The Ocheyedan Library Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 4:30pm.

Members present were:  Tammy Hoekstra, Nancy Faber, Linda Kogelmann, Janet Kleve and Librarian Connie Schuster.

Meeting was called to order by Linda.

Motion was made by  Linda and seconded by Nancy to approve the  minutes. Carried.

Treasurer's Report:  Bank Balance of $ 42,021.08
                                Trust and Agency Balance of $ 27,307.42
                                General Fund Balance of $ 14,713.66
    Bills to be sent to the City Council were read and a motion was made by Tammy and seconded by Nancy to approve.  Carried.

Librarian's Report:  5 new borrowers. 
    Weeded old VCR tapes.
    Motion made by Nancy and seconded by Janet to buy a new paper cutter at about $100.00 from Davis Typewriter.  Unable to resharpen the present blade.  Carried. 
    No bill has been received from electrical work done by Ten Klay.

Unfinished Business: 
1.  Progress on Grant projects: 
            *Shelving unit for the bound newspapers has been received at a cost of $434.00.
         *Sump Pump – Denny Duitsman is unsure a battery backup will work.  He will look for another solution.  Perhaps twin pumps and a second sump hole.       
        *Landscaping – Bernie has spoken with Marlin Laverman who has agreed to remove rock and railroad ties, add fill dirt, put down fabric, edgers, rock and plants.
        *Connie has purchased geranium plants for the volunteers.
    2.  Summer reading:  sign up has begun for the Wednesdays of June 6, 13, 20, 27.  Cookies & juice will be donated by board members.
    3.  Plans for Library's 100 years:  serve cake during the August Days of Old.

New Business:
    1.  Supervisors' appropriation:  $5200.00 has been received.
    2.  Fuel contract:  Co-op Oil is offering contracts at $1.56 per gallon if paid in full at signing of contract.  
    A motion was made by Janet and seconded by Tammy to contract 1500 gallons to be paid in June.  Carried.
    3.  Close Saturday, May 26, for Memorial Day weekend?  Motion was made by Tammy and seconded by Linda to do so.  Carried.
    4.  July Board Meeting falls on Wednesday, the 4th.  It was agreed we would meet on Tuesday, the 3rd

Meeting adjourned.                        

Date of next meeting will be June 6th at 4:30pm.
